I don't think that it would be too forward at all, maybe he has just been busy and that's why he hasn't gotten back to you. After all, he's the one that made the suggestion in the first place so it wouldn't be wrong of you to want to follow up and be sure that you still have a way home so that you can at least arrange other plans if you don't. :) Good luck!
