Florida beating?

I know everyone has heard of the beating of the highschool Florida girl by 6 clmates. I just cannot grasp this, I have been doing some research all day, and it is just heartbreaking. She was first knocked unconciouss, and when she woke up, the starting beating her and video taping it. So, she could not fight back. This was horrible, and I can not get over this, I hope these girls get so much serious punishment, especially that they are making jokes in jail. What other people think of this?
