How can I get to upstate NY, particularly Cortland NY from the "city" area of NY. Any of the 5 boroughs.?

I live in the bronx area of NY and I kinda wanna go upstate but I do not have a car. Is there any buses or trains that head upstate to that area? It's not far from syracuse either I think.
